Not all Tolix’s are Created Equal

We have recently sold out of our Silver and White Replica Xavier Pauchard Tolix Chairs. While this was definitely overwhelming for a company that is still very young, our team had anticipated the demand (although not this quickly!). When we first brought in the Tolix line, we visited as many shops we could. Researched every single possible online store that delivers. The result? We came up with the highest quality furniture including the Tolix Chair, at the lowest price possible, beating all other competitors, with a great chair under $69. A few other online furniture companies came close, but on further inspection we realised how they got their prices lower.

Have a look at a comparison photo, out of courtesy to our competitors, I won’t be revealing who it is, but no prizes for guessing the quality that is synonymous with Stools & Chairs.

Why our bedsides rock!

So a few days ago we released our new Bedside Tables. You can see the post here. We are extremely proud of our product as we believe it is the best quality and best priced bedsides in the market.. Lets take another look at our Union Jack Bedside. Not the detail in the scallop (bottom edging) of our bedside (left) against a leading online furniture retailer in Australia. Not to mention their price is over $200 more than ours.

Also our bedsides table come with a a solid oak table top which is superior to some other examples we’ve seen on the market. Our competitors example above also comes with a rougher unfinished top.

Bentwoods. The Bad and the Good

The original Bentwood chair was designed by German-Austrian cabinet maker Michael Thonet (often mispronounced Tho-Nay, the name should be pronounced Tone-et). The Bentwood chair is an elegant and simple design which is made through revolutionary steam bending technology that Thonet mastered. The curved backrest and support is made by heating the timber to 100 degrees Celsius, pressing them into curved cast iron moulds, and then drying them at 70 degrees for a further 20 hours. This results in a very strong, but light piece of timber left for the chair.

Below are some photos of other “Bentwood” Chairs. The first one has been made in China. Some Chinese manufacturers have been manufacturing copies of the Bentwood chair by bending a thicker plywood instead of the traditional steam and mould method. This results in a quicker production time, but other elements of the chair are compromised. The thick nature of the timber takes away its elegant style, and a less than ideal O-ring support for the legs is used.

The image on the right is another example of a cheaply made replica. Even though the bentwood looks slightly more genuine, the leg support still shows the inferior O-ring used, and thicker legs.

Stools & Chairs’┬áreplica of Thonet’s Bentwood Chair is guaranteed to be true to the original. It was been manufactured in Europe with all the same methods that was originally used and this is reflected in the finished product. Our Bentwoods are lightweight, elegant and strong.
